Timothy P. Noyes
President and CEO

Timothy P. Noyes joined Proteon Therapeutics in 2006 as the company’s President and CEO, bringing more than 16 years of knowledge and experience in drug development and bringing products to market. Previously, Mr. Noyes was Chief Operating Officer of Trine Pharmaceuticals, where he held broad general management responsibility across all functional areas relating to drug development, including preclinical, clinical, manufacturing, regulatory, marketing and business development. Prior to joining Trine in 2002, Mr. Noyes held several management and leadership roles with GelTex Pharmaceuticals, prior to its acquisition by Genzyme Corporation. After the acquisition, he held the position of President, Renal Division and President, GelTex Pharmaceuticals. He also worked for several years with Merck & Co. across multiple roles in its hypertension and heart failure group, managed care division, and on its Vasotec and Prilosec products. Mr. Noyes is a graduate of Harvard College, and holds a master’s in business administration from the Harvard Business School.

Kimberly S. Bland, Ph.D.
Senior Director of Research & Development

Dr. Bland holds a B.S. degree in Genetics from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, and a Ph.D. in Molecular & Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. Before joining Proteon in 2004, Dr. Bland was at Vitra Bioscience, Inc., a biotechnology company located in Mountain View, CA.

Steven K. Burke, M.D.
Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Burke joined Proteon in 2006 as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. Previously, Dr. Burke was Senior Vice President of Medical and Regulatory Affairs at Genzyme Corporation. Prior to this Dr. Burke was Vice President of Clinical Research for GelTex Pharmaceuticals and held positions at Glaxo. Dr. Burke is an accomplished researcher, possessing drug development experience in metabolism, renal, gastroenterology, infectious disease, oncology, and dermatology. Dr. Burke is a graduate of Harvard College and Cornell University Medical College. He completed a medical residency and fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is American Board of Internal Medicine certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

Joseph E. Tyler
Vice President of Manufacturing

Joseph E. Tyler joined Proteon in 2006, bringing with him 33 years of manufacturing experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Prior to joining Proteon, Tyler served as principal for PharmSupply, Inc., located in Creedmoor, N.C. Prior to this, Tyler was VP Manufacturing for Momenta Pharmaceuticals, VP Operations for Salix Pharmaceuticals, and VP Manufacturing for GelTex Pharmaceuticals. He also held manufacturing positions at Abbott Biotech, Damon Biotech, and Schering. Mr. Tyler holds a chemical engineering degree from Carnegie-Mellon University and a biochemical engineering degree from Cornell University.

Marco D. Wong, M.D., Ph.D.
Medical Director

Dr. Wong joined Proteon in 2006, bringing with him 20 years of research experience. Dr. Wong formerly served as a post-doctoral research associate at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, where he conducted genetic and molecular analysis of stem cells and germ cell development. He is a graduate of California State University and holds an M.D., Ph.D. from Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Steven St. Peter, M.D.
Managing Director, MPM Capital

Dr. Steven St. Peter is a Managing Director at MPM Capital where his investment scope includes both venture and buyout transactions across the pharmaceuticals and medical technology industries. He has previously worked at Apax Partners and The Carlyle Group. Dr. St. Peter was previously an assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at Washington University and his residency and fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his medical training, he was an investment banker at Merrill Lynch. He also holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Kansas. Dr. St. Peter is also on the boards of EKR Therapeutics, PharmAthene (ASE:PIP), Syndax Pharmaceuticals, Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals, and the New England Venture Capital Association. He was previously on the board of Atugen, Helicos BioSciences (NASDAQ:HLCS), IDEA AG, and Omrix Biopharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: OMRI).

Hubert Birner, Ph.D.
General Partner, TVM Capital

Hubert Birner, Ph.D. joined TVM Capital in 2000, and is a General Partner for life sciences in the firm’s Munich office. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Argos Therapeutics Inc. (Durham, North Carolina) and is a member of the Board of Directors of Evotec AG (Hamburg, Germany), BioXell SA (Milan, Italy), Spepharm Holding BV (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Transmolecular (Boston, Massachusetts) and Horizon Pharma, Inc. (Northbrook, Illinois). Over many years, he was the Chairman/Vice Chairman of Direvo Biotech AG (Cologne, Germany) and Jerini AG (Berlin, Germany), which were acquired in 2008 by Bayer HealthCare AG and Shire Ltd., and he also represents the interests of TVM Capital with Ardana Bioscience plc (Edinburgh, Scotland). Before joining TVM Capital, he was Head of Business Development Europe and Director of Marketing for Germany at Zeneca. Hubert joined Zeneca from McKinsey & Company’s European Health Care and Pharmaceutical practice. As a management consultant, he gained extensive experience in R&D management; marketing and sales; and joint venture structuring and business development. Dr. Birner was also an Assistant Professor for biochemistry at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. In this capacity, he directed various research projects for large pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Birner holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a doctoral degree in biochemistry from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, where he graduated summa cum laude. His doctoral thesis was honored with the Hoffmann-La Roche prize for outstanding basic research in metabolic diseases.

David G. Lowe, Ph.D.
Managing Director, Skyline Ventures

David G. Lowe, Ph.D. joined Skyline Ventures in 2002. Dr. Lowe serves on the boards of NimbleGen Systems, Inc., Applied Genetics Technologies Corporation, and Avidia, Inc. Prior to joining Skyline, Dr. Lowe spent 16 years at Genentech, Inc., where he led drug discovery activities in biologics and small molecule therapeutics, eventually as director of cardiovascular research. He was responsible for drug discovery efforts that resulted in eight drug candidates taken into clinical development, including the successful cancer therapy Avastin™. Dr. Lowe was also involved in cardiovascular strategic planning and product portfolio management at Genentech and worked extensively with Business Development on licensing of therapeutics. Dr. Lowe holds B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biochemistry from the University of Toronto, Canada, and was a Kauffman fellow. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is an inventor on seven issued or pending US patents.

Brendan O’Leary, Ph.D.
General Partner, Prism VentureWorks

Brendan O’Leary, Ph.D. joined Prism VentureWorks in 2003 where he focuses primarily on companies in the medical device, pharmaceutical and diagnostic sectors. Dr. O’Leary currently serves on the boards of Locus Pharmaceuticals, ROX Medical, and Trius Therapeutics. He was previously a director at BioRexis Pharmaceutical Corporation which was acquired by Pfizer and Serica Technologies which was acquired by Allergan. Dr. O’Leary has more than a dozen years of experience in the biotechnology and medical technology arenas and has held numerous senior operating positions at companies including Meso Scale Discovery, a high-throughput drug discovery start-up, and IGEN International, a leading medical diagnostics company (acquired by Roche). He is an accomplished scientist with numerous publications, inventions, and commercialized products to his credit. Dr. O’Leary holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a B.A. in Chemistry and Economics from Middlebury College, and was a Kauffman Fellow.

F. Nicholas Franano, M.D.
Founder, Proteon Therapeutics, Inc.

F. Nicholas Franano, M.D. is currently founder, President and CEO of Novita Therapeutics, LLC, an innovative company developing medical devices and pharmaceuticals for the cardiovascular, renal, and gastrointestinal markets. Dr. Franano previously founded Proteon Therapeutics, serving as CEO of Proteon from 2001 to 2006 and Chief Scientific Officer from 2006 to 2009. Dr. Franano holds an M.D. and an M.A. in biomedical research from Washington University, St. Louis, and a B.S. in cell biology from the University of Kansas. He completed a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in interventional radiology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he invented Proteon’s permanent vasodilation method while serving on the faculty. While at Proteon, Dr. Franano developed novel methods of manufacturing enzymes and also designed several drug delivery devices. In addition, he maintained an active clinical practice in interventional radiology from 2000 through 2005. In 2009, Dr. Franano was named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Central Midwest Region.

Gregory D. Phelps
Chairman of the Board; Partner, Red Sky Partners

Gregory D. Phelps’ career has been focused for over thirty years in the medical products and biotechnology fields, where he has held Chief Executive Officer and other executive management positions in several companies. He has served as Chief Executive Officer of RenaMed Biologics, Inc., Ardais Corporation, Viagene, Inc. and ZymoGenetics, Inc. He has also served as Vice Chairman of Dyax Corporation, Executive Vice President of Genzyme Corporation and Vice President of Baxter Travenol Laboratories, Inc (now Baxter Healthcare). Mr. Phelps has previously served on the Boards of Directors of ten public and private companies in the health care field, as well as on the Boards of The Hemophilia Foundation of California and the Charles River School of Dover, MA. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Bradley University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
